Homlessness Paradigm Shift
TRANSFORMING LIVES
Welcome! Our mission is to transform the way we understand and address homelessness by fostering compassion, raising awareness, and providing actionable solutions. Join us in creating a supportive community where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
UNDERSTANDING HOMELESSNESS
Homelessness is a complex issue with deep-rooted causes such as economic instability, lack of affordable housing, mental health challenges, and substance abuse. Those experiencing homelessness face numerous hardships, including limited access to healthcare, employment, and social services. By understanding the true causes and challenges, we can break down stereotypes and work towards meaningful solutions.
Local Homelessness Stats
The number of individuals reported to be homeless increased to 4,821 in 2023 from 3,634 in 2020. This is the largest increase measured between Counts since the regional Counts began in 2005. According to the findings of the Greater Vancouver 2023 Point-in-Time Homeless Count, the number of homeless persons in the area has increased by 32% since the 2020 count. The count is done every three years and involves an army of volunteers spreading out across the region over 24 hours in early March, not just counting heads but surveying those they find, both sheltered and unsheltered.
